Margot Barolo

Margot Barolo graduated from Beckmans College of Design and holds a Master’s degree in Ceramics from Konstfack. She has long been a prominent figure in the Swedish design industry. With Coffee & More, she has created one of Sagaform’s most iconic collections – a tableware series that combines playfulness and functionality through a clean design language and carefully selected colours. Her unique design style and love for ceramics are clearly reflected in this collection. Now, a new shade is being launched – a warm and inviting beige, perfect as a complement to the existing tones.

The fact that Margot Barolo doesn’t drink coffee feels almost ironic, considering she is the designer behind a collection so often associated with coffee moments. But for her, a cup of coffee is more than just a beverage – it is a gesture of togetherness.

"In every culture, it is a gesture of welcome, an invitation to conversation and friendship," she says.

With a blend of playfulness and functionality, the Coffee & More collection has been a favourite since its launch in 2018. Designer Margot Barolo shares her inspiration from the joyful colours of the 1970s, the thoughts behind the new beige shade, and how the collection not only celebrates table aesthetics but also the people gathered around it.

A favourite since 2018

The Coffee & More collection was launched in 2018, a collaboration between Sagaform and designer Margot Barolo. Reflecting on the design process, Margot expresses her joy over the positive response the collection has received since its debut.

"It warms my heart to hear how people use and appreciate it just as we had hoped," she says with a smile.

Playfulness and functionality as guiding stars

The vision behind Coffee & More was to create a tableware collection that combines playfulness with functionality – a series that looks just as good in the cupboard as it does on the table.

"I wanted it to help you create a beautiful setting, whether everything is neatly arranged or in charming chaos. It’s designed to suit many different personalities," explains Margot.

With its robust design language and stackability, Coffee & More encourages personal creativity. The collection invites you to mix and stack freely – combining colours, patterns, and shapes without rules.

"The patterns are designed to both clash and complement each other, making the collection feel vibrant whether it’s stacked away or laid out for a meal," Margot adds.

The inspiration nods to the joyful colours and design language of the 1970s, reflected in the clean, functional lines. The series is tied together by calming hues, a high-gloss glaze, and the signature relief pattern that gives each piece its character.

A new colour adding warmth

This season, Coffee & More expands with a soft beige tone. Finding the perfect shade was a challenge – balancing warmth and lightness within such a broad colour spectrum required precision and countless tests.

"This colour was chosen to blend seamlessly into many different environments and styles, without losing its unique character. It feels contemporary, yet timeless," says Margot.

"I’ve long wanted to create a light but warm tone that truly enhances the deeper colours in the collection. Beige also offers a contrast to the stark white that has dominated the design world for so long."

Setting the table with Coffee & More

When Margot shares her tips for styling with Coffee & More, she emphasises letting the colours and details speak for themselves:

"I love mixing different colours, like the new beige with red and green. If I have a beautiful wooden surface, I often skip the tablecloth – I want the colours to play freely against the background."

She recommends decorating with greenery, stacking the tableware at varying heights, and adding candleholders in different styles to create a lively and inviting atmosphere. She herself enjoys setting up a buffet where it’s easy to achieve something both beautiful and practical.
